Noel Gallagher: 'New Oasis album is not Britpop'

Guitarist says experimental LP is 'not our usual thing'

Noel Gallagher has said the forthcoming Oasis album, 'Dig Out Your Soul', will see the band taking a newer, less mainstream direction.

Speaking to BBC 6Music, Gallagher explained that he does not expect to hear too many of the new songs on radio because of their more experimental nature.

"It's not Britpop, let's put it that way. It's not our usual thing," he explained. "It's just really exciting, three of the tracks have got two drummers on, me and Zak [Starkey] playing drums. Some of it sounds a bit glam. There's no pop singles on it. I'd be amazed if anything else gets on the radio past the first single."

Gallagher said that the album takes influences from The Stooges, The Doors and The Pretty Things - as well as John Lennon.

"There's a kind of piano-y, John Lennon-y obligatory plod-away song in the middle, which Liam wrote," he said, "and that's to break up the two sides which are pretty intense, and it's full-on from the start to finish."

'Dig Out Your Soul' is released on October 6. It's preceded by a single, 'The Shock Of the Lightning', on September 29.

I love all the Oasis albums and i have heard all it's release.Oasis evolved from an earlier band called The Rain, composed of Paul McGuigan, Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs , Tony McCarroll (drums) and Chris Hutton (vocals). Unsatisfied with Hutton, Arthurs auditioned acquaintance Liam Gallagher as a replacement. Liam suggested that the band name be changed to Oasis. This change was inspired by an Inspiral Carpets tour poster which hung in the Gallagher brothers' bedroom. One of the venues the poster listed was the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon.[8] Oasis played their first live gig in August 1991 at the Boardwalk club in Manchester. Noel Gallagher, who was a roadie for Inspiral Carpets, went with the band to watch his younger brother's band play. Whilst Noel Gallagher and his friends did not think Oasis sounded particularly spectacular, he did begin to consider the possibility of using his brother's group as a possible outlet for a series of songs.
